"New Photos!" The raising of the Pye frame in Montgomery, Vermont

After battling torrential rains throughout day one, the weather held and we managed to complete the raising of this frame on day two. The actual raising was done by a local crew from Montgomery Center, who caught on to timber framing very quickly, and made the job a lot of fun.

The timber frame is agian a mixture of species, with white pine being dominant. Curved knee braces were mostly ash, the bedroom collar is soft maple, while the 16 foot sling braces, central posts, and summer beam were all done in hickory. The biggest challenge with this project was completing the frame on a compressed schedule before the heavy snow fell in Vermont - and as if on cue, it began to snow the day after the frame was up.

Thanks to Jared, Kevin and Brad for their positive attitude and effort during the raising, and to the Pye's for having faith that it could be done!
